With Nurse Maude now providing specialist hospice palliative care throughout the greater Canterbury region, through to Banks Peninsula, Ashburton, Kaikoura and the Hunrunui, Selwyn and Waimakariri districts, a larger Hospice has been a priority for some time now.
For Debra Wilson, Aged Care and Hospice Palliative Care Manager, the refurbished Hospice will be the realisation of a long-held vision to bring the rapidly expanding Hospice Palliative Care team together under one roof and provide patients and their families with the very best care and environment possible.
Each room will open to a private courtyard and larger garden area, allowing families the space to spend time together. As the largest provider of Specialist Hospice Palliative Care in the South Island we will always be focused on being a Centre of Excellence and this is a significant step forward, says Debra.
The refurbished Hospice, which will be directly across from the present one on Mansfield Avenue and occupying the ground floor of the Nurse Maude Hospital, will cost some $450,000 and will be the focus of a fundraising drive over the next 12 months.
Sue Bramwell, Marketing & Communications Manager for Nurse Maude says the refurbished Hospice offers a number of high profile sponsorship opportunities for corporates as well as the chance for individuals to donate.
