Homecare – Personal Care & Domestic Assistance
For many of Nurse Maude’s clients, being able to retain as much independence
as possible, in their community, is an integral part of their
quality of life.
Homecare is available for anyone recovering in their own home from an
accident or surgery and those who have been assessed as needing support or have a
life-limiting illness.
Housework and personal care tasks become difficult under these circumstances,
and Homecare assists clients to retain their independence while remaining safely
in familiar surroundings.
Personal Care
Following assessment and a care plan by a registered nurse, support
workers provide assistance with needs such as dressing and undressing, personal
grooming, bathing, toileting, and mobility needs and meals. Personal Care
services are available seven days a week when needed.
Domestic Assistance
The support worker provides household tasks such as laundry, vacuuming,
dusting, dishes, bed making, meal preparation and essential shopping so clients
can leave hospital earlier or be supported in their own home. The service is available 8am to
5pm, Monday to Friday.
Referrals to Homecare services may be made directly by the clients or their
families/whanau, GP, Needs Assessment and Service Coordination Agencies, ACC
or public or private hospitals.
Homecare services are free to those assessed as meeting eligibility for services, and there is
also a private payment option for those who are not eligible for funding.
