Nurse Maude Hospice Palliative Care Service
The Nurse Maude Hospice Palliative Care Service provides specialised hospice palliative care for
patients who have a life-limiting illness, in the community and in the Nurse Maude Hospice.
Friends and family are welcome to visit the Hospice at any time and there are facilities
for close relatives or friends to stay overnight. Patients may be attended by
their own doctor or choose to be cared for by the Hospice medical staff.
Hospice palliative care is centred on the needs of patients and their families/whanau
and embraces the physical, social, emotional and spiritual elements of wellbeing - tinana, whanau, hinengaro and wairua - that enhances a person's quality of
life.
Nurse Maude's Hospice Palliative Care Service covers the greater Canterbury region, covering an area that encompasses Kaikoura, Ashburton, Banks Peninsula and across to Hanmer Springs and Arthurs Pass.
The Hospice Palliative Care team comprises doctors and allied health professionals as well as nurses, a chaplain, counsellors and a Maori Support worker.
Referrals to this free service may come through the patient's doctor,
hospital, social worker or another health care provider.
