Professional Learning and Development

Nurse Maude is committed to professional practice, clinical scholarship and excellence in business practice. Given the depth and breadth of Nurse Maude's services, the organisation places a very high value on its people and their ongoing training and support.

Nurse Maude offers many education programs through the Department of Nursing and Education and the Human Resources Department. Programmes are designed for orientation, staff development and continuing education as well as clinical initiatives.

Nursing Programmes

New Graduate Programme: Working in partnership with the Canterbury District Health Board's New Graduate Programme Nurse Maude offers newly qualified nurses benefit from both the Canterbury programme and a programme specifically designed to meet the competencies for practicing in the community.

Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP): Nurse Maude's commitment to advancing practice and professional development is also seen in its Professional Development Recognition Programme for Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses and Nurse Assistants. Ensuring consistency and transportability of levels of recognition Nurse Maude's PDRP is linked with the Canterbury DHB programme.

In-service Programme: Nurse Maude's in-service programme is purpose built to meet the educational requirements of nurses working in the community setting; it includes mandatory updates such as First Aid and extension programmes such as Palliative and Wound Management and individual programmes for orientation and competency attainment.

Graduate and Post Graduate Programmes: Nurses are encouraged to undertake professional development at both graduate and masters level. Release time and course costs are often fully covered by the organisation. CTA funding is available for nurses undertaking approved university study.

Professional Supervision: External supervisors are engaged by Nurse Maude to provide supervision for all nursing and allied health staff.

Support Worker Education

Nurse Maude has developed training packages specifically for Community Support Workers which provide the skills and competencies required to meet the needs of its clients. We are actively involved in national training initiatives to offer support workers the opportunity to undertake courses on the National Qualifications Framework.

Non Clinical Staff Education and Development

Nurse Maude supports many of its non clinical staff in their education through business courses, university study or trade qualifications.
