Hospice Shop

Every year the Nurse Maude Hospice provides hospice palliative care free of charge to more than 1000 patients across the wider Canterbury region.

To close the financial gap between the needs of those patients and their families and the financial resources available we rely on your generosity.

There are many ways you can help us raise the $1.5m a year we need, including donating to and buying from our Hospice Shops and Trade Me and donating money through any of the following ways:

  • By credit card over the phone – Simply call 375 4200 and ask to speak to our Finance Department.
  • By Cheque. Mail your donation to:
    Nurse Maude
    PO Box 36126
    Merivale
    Christchurch 8146
Please make cheques payable to Nurse Maude and include your contact details if you wish to receive a receipt.
  • Internet Banking using Nurse Maude’s bank account number 02 0865 0057217 03. If you advise us of your donation and provide the reference details, we can provide a receipt.
  • Automatic Payments set up with your bank to provide ongoing regular payments. Print and complete the Automatic Payment form and return to your bank.
  • Payroll Giving is a good way for you as an employee to make a regular donation from your pre tax pay. This means you receive an immediate tax benefit. It is a simple process organised through your employer with your chosen donation amount transferred each pay period. Print and complete our Payroll Giving form and return to your employer.

Bequests

Leaving a gift to Nurse Maude in your will ensures that your support of our work continues beyond your own lifetime. There are a number of ways you can make such a gift…

  • A financial or asset donation, such as money, property, shares or jewellery.
  • A percentage of your estate.
  • A residual bequest that allows you to leave specific gifts to family and friends, with the remaining part of your estate gifted to Nurse Maude.
  • A specific contingent bequest that comes into effect only if your primary intention cannot be met.  For example; "If (name of primary beneficiary) does not survive me, then I give to Nurse Maude…"
  • Name Nurse Maude as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy.
  • Establish a charitable trust either during your lifetime or in your Will to support Nurse Maude’s work.
  • Assign income from your investments.

Bequests should specify the Nurse Maude Association, and a suggested wording for a bequest in your Will, or as a codicil to your existing Will, would be:

"I give and bequeath to Nurse Maude the sum of $...(or property, assets or a percentage of my estate as described) for the general purposes (or for a specific purpose) for which the receipt of the Treasurer or other authorized officer shall be a good discharge to my Trustees."

By letting us know about your bequest we are able to thank you.

Memorial and Funeral Donations

Acknowledging Nurse Maude at the funeral of your loved one is as simple as asking the Funeral Director to insert a line in the death notice that says: Donations to Nurse Maude in memory of (name of deceased) may be made at the funeral.

The funeral director will then make the necessary arrangements for that to happen. You’ll receive advice and a receipt from Nurse Maude for those donations and, of course, our heartfelt thanks.
